We hope everyone is getting a chance to poke around the bush and look for flowers, we have certainly been doing that when the sun is out. Keep sending me photos that you would like to share with other members, thanks, Beth.

• Parson’s Bands (included a drawing I did for a book on flora of our Muckleford property)
• Sprawling Bluebell (it took a lot of microscope work to identify this correctly as it’s dying now and is not the most common around here, the Tall Bluebell)

Landcare member, Dion, (Muckleford South) is using the time at home to get some plants in the ground. Call Frances at Newstead Natives or Ken at Neangar Nursery to see how they are trading during lock down.

Neville, our Landcare President, found a nest of baby hares on his Muckleford property, the parents took off when he discovered the nest.

Hello Muckleford Landcarers, Connecting Country is holding its annual Landcare Link-up this Saturday 29 February 2020, starting at 4pm until 7pm. You get to hear stories from other Landcare groups in the district about what they are doing. It’s at the Castlemaine Uniting Church Hall, please RSVP to Asha at Connecting Country.

Join us Thursday 12th December at 5.30pm for our end of year break up drinks, and official AGM. This is also the time we decide on our activities for 2020. We will be in the back garden at The Hub, in Templeton Street, Castlemaine (then building with the bikes attached to it).

Meet at 11am on Sunday 10th November 2019 at the Muckleford train station for a ride to Maldon, lunch at the Kangaroo, and return. Get your bikes out of the shed, and ready to go! Please RSVP to Beth or call 0431 219  980.

Get your  bikes out of the shed, dust them off, and give them a service, because the Muckleford Landcare annual bike ride is soon upon us.

Join us on Sunday 10th November at 11am at the Muckleford train station for our ride to Maldon. We will have lunch at the Kangaroo Hotel, and then ride back to Muckleford station.

This Saturday 12th October 2019 at 10am we have our community planting morning in Muckleford. Come and put in 20 plants and you get to take 20 plants home (or something like that!!!). At the very least we are getting together to plant, to chat, and to have some lunch, and to give away some plants.

Muckleford Landcare will be at Mucklefest on Saturday and Sunday (5th/6th October 2019) from 10am to around 2pm. If you would like to talk to us about your property, grab some information, or just come and say hello and have a cup of tea, please do. We will be selling plants from Newstead Natives and some of the proceeds will go towards our projects.

Dear Landcarers, here are our upcoming events for the rest of the year:

–Saturday 14th September 2019, 10am-11am. Meet at the end of Lyndham Road for a short walk up the Bassett Creek to see our plantings from last year. It’s been one year since our Bassett Creek Stage 2 project planting (funded by the NCCMA) and we will take some photos and review the work.

–Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th October, 10am-3pm. Mucklefest (our local festival) at the Muckleford train station. We will have lots of information guides, as well as books for sale. We will also be selling plants from Newstead Natives and some of the proceeds of these plants are donated to Muckleford Landcare. So come down and support your local Landcare group and have a chat and a cup of tea.

–Saturday 12th October, 10am-12noon. Landcare planting day. We will be having a small planting day on a local landholder’s property and giving away free plants! If you put 20 plants in the ground, you can take 20 plants home (all native, and mostly shrubs and ground covers). Stay for a BBQ (vegetarian available) and a chat. Look forward to seeing you there. Plenty of plants will be available so don’t feel shy, come and get your freebies!

–Sunday 10th November, 11am. Muckleford Landcare annual bike ride! The best activity of our Landcare year is the bike ride to Maldon (lunch at the Kangaroo Hotel) and return to the Muckleford station. Get your bikes ready to go, all ages and abilities welcome, including other Landcare groups.
