Nev and Beth from Muckleford Landcare are leading a walk with the Friends of the Box Ironbark Forests this Sunday, 20th August, in the Maldon forest. It’s the same place as our wildflower walk last year, however, no wildflowers out yet.

FOBIF walkers meet at 9.30am outside 30 Templeton Street, Castlemaine (Castlemaine Community House) and carpool to the start of the walk. Bring water, morning tea and lunch. However, Muckleford Landcare members are welcome to meet us on site as below:

Starting at the corner of Donkey Farm Track and Railway Track in Muckleford North, this 10 km walk will follow the Victorian Goldfields Tourist Railway track towards Maldon, then loop back through the Maldon Historic Reserve.

Muckleford Landcare is getting ready for our upcoming planting project, a wildflower walk, bat talk, and property visit. We’ll be sharing resources like plant lists and bush food information on our website soon. Our members can also get free guides by letting us know what information they’re interested in. Our annual nest box monitoring in the Walmer South Conservation Reserve is set for Sunday 7th May, starting promptly at 10am, finishing at 12 noon.

Muckleford Landcare committee members, Eleanor and Albi, tackle roadside weeds whenever they are out and about. But specifically they are our Wheel Cactus controllers for Muckleford.

If you see wheel cactus on roadsides, please contact us and we’ll send our crack team to deal with them.

We are looking for landowners who would like to be a part of our new project (funded by the NCCMA). You need to have a boundary fence near the road, and there needs to be a gap in the roadside vegetation. You have the opportunity to fill in that gap, as well as getting some new vegetation on your own place. We will provide plants and guards, you will pay for the ripping and do the planting.
